An energetic flash mob kept the crowd entertained while delivering an important anti-smoking message during the Kuala Lumpur Car-Free Morning.
The performance reflected the support of government agencies and non-governmental organisations for the Health Ministry’s move to ban smoking, vaping and possession of tobacco products for those born after 2005.
The proposed new law is slated to be tabled in Parliament in July.
The flash mob was part of the “Gegar KL Bebas Asap Rokok” programme.
It is one of the side programmes of Kuala Lumpur Car-Free Morning organised by the Kuala Lumpur Bebas Asap Rokok (KLBAR) committee, Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur, Health Ministry, Malaysia Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam) and Nicotine Addiction Research and Collaborating Centre Universiti Malaya (NARCC).
Present to flag off participants at the event were Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah, Health deputy secretary-general Datuk Harjeet Singh and Pemadam training and information bureau chairman Datuk Kaswuri Keman.
Also present were Health deputy director-general (public health) Datuk Dr Chong Chee Kheong and Health Ministry disease control division director Datuk Dr Norhayati Rusli.
