PETALING JAYA: The Control Of Smoking Products For Public Health Act (Act 852) will take effect on October 1, says the Health Ministry.
“This Act covers regulations on the registration, sale, packaging, labelling, and the prohibition of smoking in public places.
“The rules and orders that will be enforced include electronic cigarettes,” said the ministry in a Facebook post late Tuesday night (Sept 24).
In May, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that the ministry would fully enforce the Act in June to address the increase in the use of electronic cigarettes by young people.
The ministry has earlier come under criticism as without the enforcement of Act 852, regulations to ban the sale of vapes to minors could not be enforced.
This comes after the order to remove nicotine used in vape and e-cigarettes from restricted substances under the Poisons Act.
